next fixtures . .

Championship:
Nottingham Forest (a)

This coming Saturday sees United make a competitive return to the City Ground, when we face a Nottingham Forest side managed by Billy Davies and former Toon favourite David Kelly.

Sky TV transmission makes this a 5.20pm kickoff.

NUFC have sold their original allocation of 4,200 seats for this game. A further public sale of 100 tickets took place on Tuesday morning but these are now also sold out.

NUFC: to follow...latest fitness concerns are over Marlon Harewood (foot) and Steven Taylor (hamstring).

Jose Enrique (hamstring) should return after missing the Bristol City game, but Fabricio Coloccini (groin) is yet to resume training after sitting out the last two matches.

Joey Barton and Shola Ameobi are both still sidelined, while Jonas Gutierrez and Zurab Khizanishvili are both in action tonight (Wednesday) for Argentina & Georgia respectively. Nile Ranger is expected to recover from a virus which kept him out of the England U19 squad.

NFFC: to follow...

A calf injury sustained by striker Robert Earnshaw while playing for Wales will rule him out of this game.

Forest actually come into this game in better form than Newcastle, having won their last three league games.

And so far this season they've done better away from home, registering four draws and two victories from their six away fixtures.

At the City Ground, Forest have beaten Derby County (3-2) and Scunthorpe United (2-0), but lost their three other home games, against West Brom (0-1), Watford (2-4) and Blackpool (0-1).

In the League Cup, successive home ties saw them beat both Bradford City and the smoggies, before bowing out at the hands of Blackburn Rovers.

After making his Newcastle debut against former club Ipswich Town, Saturday sees Marlon Harewood face another one of his old clubs. The 30 year-old began his professional career there after coming through the youth ranks, being handed his debut away at West Bromwich Albion in May 1998 by then-boss Dave Bassett.

Harewood went on to make 204 appearances in all competitions, scoring 55 goals.

It remains to be seen what sort of reception he receives from home fans though, given that his departure in 2003 to West Ham came after a failure to agree a new deal.

Less than two months after moving to East London, he returned to the City Ground and netted within seven minutes for his new club, as they ran out 2-0 winners.

And earlier this year, the player angered Forest by opting to make a loan switch to Wolves instead of returning to his former club after days of negotiation.

Referee: Paul Taylor (Hertfordshire) veteran lower league whistler who turned 50 in the close season and may wish that he hadn't been handed the recent West Ham v Millwall League Cup tie.

Back in his season as a Premier League referee, Taylor took charge of our 1-0 win at Manchester City in September 2000 and a 2-2 draw at Bradford later that same season.
